Anna Samson
Anna Samson is a 22-year-old from Canada, living just outside of Toronto. They are currently studying at McMaster University where they are majoring in English.
In 2019, after three to four years of unexplained symptoms, they were diagnosed with an autoimmune inflammatory arthritis called ankylosing spondylitis. This systemic condition also affects their eyes, as there is inflammation that also causes dryness.
They are working with their doctors to find treatments to help alleviate symptoms of dry eye. Some of the symptoms they experience are pain, light sensitivity, and dryness.
Learning of their conditions sparked a long and ongoing journey of navigating the healthcare system and life in general as a young and disabled person.
Their condition has progressed since their initial diagnosis and they have found solace and understanding in the chronic illness and disabled communities online. They also post about their experiences with chronic illnesses and disabilities on their Instagram page, @chronicallyillxo.
Anna finds comfort in reading, doing yoga, and spending time with their cat and dog. They love to write and hopes their writing can advocate and raise awareness for chronic dry eye and those suffering from it.
