Double Vision with dry eyes

The strangest symptom of chronic dry eyes that I experience is a form of double vision called “ghosting”. I notice it primarily while driving. The headlights on oncoming cars appear to be two sets of lights, one set slightly above the other. Monocular double vision presents as a “ghost” image, a shadow that overlaps with the primary image. It can affect the left eye, the right eye or both eyes at once. I would love to hear from other people that experience double vision. Here is also an article on our site about it: https://bit.ly/3f5ZrWa

  1. Hello, hope you are doing well, did you checked up with your eye doctor abut this? Do once check with your doctor and then only apply any medications also check my bio. Hope it helps!

    1. double vision occurs when the tear film dries out. OTC eyedrops and using my Bruder eye mask helps. Thanks for your comment. Warm wishes, Sharon Moore Patient Leader

  2. Yes this happens to me too! Mainly the ghosting happens and driving at night can be difficult because my eyes are sensitive to the lights.

    1. I bought the Cocoon night vision glasses for driving at night or in rainy/foggy conditions. They provided clarity and reduced glare. I have had to stop night driving as my vision worsened. Sharon, Patient Leader

    2. I have never heard of these but I am going to check them out!

  3. I experienced double vision at night when I found the traffic lights overlapped 1/2 at the bottom of the red light. The glare of oncoming traffic at night bothered me. My eye doctor believed it is my cataracts and recommended surgery. Due to my high prescriptions I put it off as long as possible. Instead I take lutein 20 mg + zwwaxanthin twice a day and sometimes presar vision pills once a day. I increased dosage of restasis to 3 drops per eye at least twice a day. After a few weeks the double vision seems to have gone away.

    1. thanks for sharing your experience with double vision. I am glad your symptoms have gone away. I find double vision so distracting while driving. Warm wishes, Sharon Moore Patient Leader
