Extremely dry eyes and macular degeneration

I have had dry eyes since my mid 30s and I am now 77. I use Refresh Tears, Refresh gel and Refresh PM ornament. Since the first of February. I also take ARED2 and Sight Care for my macular degeneration. My eyesight has been better. I have not had floaters or any issues with losing focus since the first February. My macular degeneration is dry and not wet.

  1. Hi - Thank you for sharing your journey with dry eye. It sounds like your treatment plan is quite comprehensive. Do you have any tips for those who may be newly diagnosed with this condition? What have you learned over the years that helped you find good results? Appreciate any insights you're able to share! - Cody (Team Member)

    1. to be honest it has been trial and error. Years ago I was told I had dry eyes and I couldn't wear contacts. But no one explained to me why, or how to help it. I ended up doing my own research and trying different things. Frustration let me to find my on solutions. I am a veteran and the VA does an actual better job of explaining things than the private sector doctors. I will be getting tear duct plugs on the 11th of April, my wife has them and says they really help. And some of my research says that it may also help my sinus issues and I seem to have a lot of drainage that could possibly be due to my eyes draining down through my tear duct so much. I really notice it when I use the eye drops.
My recommendation is not just take anyone's word for things not even your doctors do your own research and always ask for second opinions.

  2. I got the permanent tear duct plugs plugs put in both eyes. The first thing I have noticed is less drainage down into my throat, the second thing is tearing of both eyes.
