Eye plugs

Looking for information about tear duct plugs. Opthamologist wants me to get them but I am skeptical about this. Anybody else out there have these?

  1. Hi ! Are you thinking about punctal plugs? Here is an experience some community members have shared (https://chronicdryeye.net/forums) and also here is an article from , one of our CDE Health Leader (https://chronicdryeye.net/living/punctal-plugs) that may help too!) - Warmly, Reggie, team member

    1. I’ve gotten them for the last ten years and they’ve worked great. The eye dr alternates inserting them from top to bottom ducts each time, which is sufficient. I was able to stop using prescription and otc tears and night gel. Last year I only got bottoms done once and it was sufficient for the year. I was going to skip this year but I’ve noticed my eyes getting dry again so I’ll go get them again.
They start off with collagen soft plugs that dissolve fast so you can try them. Dr puts them in with little applicators. It’s only slightly uncomfortable putting them in, really not even noticeable sometimes. Definitely worth a try and beats looking for that tear bottle all day

  2. Yes. It will help. It will be worth it.

    1. My bottom ducts were lasered shut in 1986. This was before plugs. They are still closed. I don't think they do the laser any more. But it worked for me.

    2. thank you for the additional details. Sharon, patient leader

  3. I had eye plugs when I was first diagnosed with dry eye. They help alot.
