Dry Eye with Hypothyroidism
I am an 83-year-old male who has been a vegan and only eats whole foods since 1967. The optician advised of hypertension, blood pressure tests, and then an ambulatory test was referred to the GP (England), blood test confirmed hypothyroidism above sub-clinical. Dry itchy eye skin is the only other issue- "You must take levothyroxine, no other answer," they said. I did not cause it, so it should be dealt with, not the symptoms. One year since supplements and addressing iodine deficiency, thyroid issues resolved, but high blood pressure persists.
Helping my chronic dry eye
Addressing dry eye issue: just bought a medical-grade castor oil USB heat mask. I think intermittent sleep is also an issue to deal with. Sometimes, historic untreated trauma can cause persistent blood pressure problems, a 'hidden cause' many doctors will not acknowledge. A recent eye examination shows no indication of high blood pressure; it is very important to have regular eye examinations to detect dry eye issues. Pituitary axis issues affect so many things so often that a prima donna endocrinologist will not acknowledge this.
Menopause often leads to so many transient concerns. Be sure to look beyond dry eyes; this irritating condition may prompt you to notice other issues that could be life-saving. Mother of a friend, age 102, feels fine, doctor advises she should be concerned about her high blood pressure; she was somewhat amused:-)
