Issues with gritty eyelids

Help! Anyone have any suggestions for grit on the edge of my eyelids, and sometimes my eyelids feeling like they are glued shut when I wake up.
I only use over the counter eye drops, Refresh gel. And Soothe PM ointment. I am a Veteran and my eye doctors are at the VA clinics I can go to.
